Hong Kong actor Ruco Chan has opened up about his relationship with former Miss Hong Kong Phoebe Sin, whom he has been happily married with since October 2018.

In a recent interview with HK01, the 49-year-old reflected on his love life with Sin, 35, revealing that he first got connected with her via Instagram.

As the story goes, they initially took a photo together at a party.

Although he was attracted to her, he remained professional and didn't rush into pursuing the relationship.

"I messaged her on Instagram, asking to send me the photo as it was taken on her phone. I wasn't using WhatsApp then, so we chatted via Instagram," he said.

Chan first met Sin in 2016 when she competed in the Miss Hong Kong pageant, where the TVB star served as a judge for the finals.

When asked if it was love at first sight, the actor admitted it wasn't quite that but felt some connection, saying: "The moment I saw her, I just felt the need to protect and support her."

On what ultimately won him over, Chan said it was Sin's absolute trust in him.

"I've always been misunderstood. Whether I stay silent or say something, people tend to misinterpret me. But she didn't – she trusted me," he shared.

During the interview, Chan revealed that he had proposed to Sin twice after the first proposal didn't go as planned.

The first time, he slipped a heart-shaped paper ring onto her finger while she was asleep.

Unimpressed, Sin said: "That counts? I was sleeping! No, you need to try again."

To make up for it, Chan, who shares a six-year-old daughter with Sin, later proposed to her in Britain with flowers and finally won her over.

"She said, 'You have so many tricks for filming. Why are you so unromantic?'. I told her that filming is one thing and proposing is another," he added.

Meanwhile, Sin previously spoke about Chan's first proposal in an interview with Hong Kong's Ming Pao Daily, saying she had rejected it as it "lacked sincerity".

"My heart said 'yes', but my mouth said 'no',” she told the publication.
